Barn-lover’s birthday

It was so much fun to make a cake for a fellow who has a passion for old barns. I decided to paint a cake all the way around with various barns, set in a November rural setting. I used food colouring gel, watered down with vodka to make it have the feel of watercolours. And I think it worked pretty well. The cake reminds me of the look of my nature journals that I paint in when I travel.
The birthday message was scrawled onto a piece of faux barn board, made of fondant. And to bring it all together, I made fondant oak leaves and acorns to soften the edges.
Apparently, David loved it so much, he didn’t want to cut it! Happy birthday David.
