Harry Potter

Harry PotterI was never a huge Harry Potter fan and although I have seen one of the films, I had never read any of the books and didn’t really know all the lore of the story.
So, a friend at work helped me out. The name of that ball thingie with wings? A snitch. That hat with a face? The sorting hat. Colours of Harry’s scarf? Gold and red. Oh, the details!
But in the end I was delighted with the results. And so too, more importantly, was Quinny, the birthday girl.

Succulent cake

succulent cakeSucculents are all the rage now and the fun thing about them is that they grow in hundreds of shapes, sizes and colours.
In this case, I played with shades of green and made wee cacti and succulents by piping buttercream and going “old school.”
I just love piping buttercream and going back to my decorating “roots” and this cake was just a great excuse to play with sugar. And best of all, this cake was a donation for a fundraising cake auction, the proceeds to go to the Madagascar School project, an effort I support and donate a cake to annually.
