Happy Robbie Burns Day

A few years back I was invited to celebrate and pay tribute to Robbie Burns, the great Scottish poet (1759-1796) who was born on January 25. Dinner faves included the piping in of the haggis as well as deep-fried Mars bars.
I thought I’d have some fun and brought cupcakes, decorated with tartans made up of buttercream piping. One fellow, dressed in his Scottish regalia, grabbed a cupcake that came pretty close to the tartan on his kilt!
As the official Burns website says, “…Burns suppers range from stentoriously formal gatherings of esthetes and scholars to uproariously informal rave-ups of drunkards and louts.”
The dinner I attended was somewhere in between.
